Wednesday 31 July marked the commencement of the $2.5 million Playing Field Expansion at Adelaide Shores.

The Federal Minister for Hindmarsh Steve Georganas, the State Minister for Recreation and Sport Leon Bignell and the Chief Executive Officer of Adelaide Shores Kate Williams, joined Football Federation SA Chief Executive Officer Michael Carter for the official commencement of the project, along with local club representatives, Westfield W League players and Henley High School students.

At the launch Federal Member for Hindmarsh, Steve Georganas said,

“This project will provide new facilities for players and spectators alike, as well as improving safety at the precinct and increasing car parking.

“Importantly, this project is a partnership with the State Government, the West Beach Trust, and Football Federation of South Australia; it leverages various funding sources to achieve a great result.”

Minister for Recreation and Sport Leon Bignell said the new and expanded facilities, which include a floodlit pitch and change rooms for teams and referees, will open up new opportunities for South Australian sportsmen and women.

Michael Carter, Chief Executive Officer of Football Federation of SA said, “Investment in infrastructure is important in dealing with the growth in our sport and this project will offer opportunities to men, women, girls and boys of all abilities and ages.”

“The first artificial pitch in South Australia will offer unrestricted access – we already have more than 150 catch-up games waiting to be played across FFSA competitions due to the overuse of pitches and heavy rainfall.”

“Football Federation SA thanks the Federal Member for Hindmarsh Steve Georganas and Minister Bignell for their commitment to Football in South Australia.”

The project is set to be completed in December with the opening coinciding with a Westfield W League match.
